@ikuturso I see. So defederation can be a form of leverage for sufficiently large instances (allow our content or we'll defederate, etc.), and on that point mastodon's only advantage over BS is that the network is more dispersed.
I asked because I wonder if Bluesky's switch to a VC CEO has anything to do with the success of blacksky and the announcement of Eurosky. Are they trying to bake in some enshittification before the network gets too dispersed?

@KentNavalesi personally I have my doubts about Bluesky getting all that decentralized anytime soon or ever despite these small third party efforts for a variety of reasons. Also think the VCs could fairly easily just make the whole platform a walled garden if they really were worried abt losing control but I doubt that's the plan yet. My best guess is it's more about them being worried about Bluesky's current decline and possibly an imminent need to arrange another round of VC funding for it.
