I recently wrote a thread, in reaction to the international push towards ID verification embedded in all operating systems, about how we needed a group of people making hardware / software on explicitly anarchist principles. The ensuing comments pretty much showed that people did not understand that FOSS is not an anarchist project and that FOSS was an example of what I was criticizing, both in terms of US &quot;libertarianism&quot; and in terms of the ideal of the heroic individual tech person. 1/n

Here's an example -- subtooted, because the person who wrote it seems like a fine, sympathetic person and I really don't want to criticize them personally: They have a project they've run for more than a decade and they want a nonprofit to take it over: "Why consider doing this? One reason is to ensure that [project] survives and grows. Another is to have it evolve according to your vision, not mine. Another is to be one of the orgs most on top of what's happening in the world of [field]."
