Yes, but the point is that it would be very easy for western countries to go back to shortwave because it's so low tech and cheap to do. Given the geopolitical situation in the world right now, it's possible that this might happen.
I'm not saying switch to shortwave now, I'm saying buy a shortwave radio in case it becomes the only way to get unfiltered international news in your country.

@FediThing They won't unless there is a massive collapse. Run by accountants that even are ditching local broadcast TV & Radio for streaming. However there are still stations on SW & MW (sometimes I hear Algeria on LW), but many European countries inc Ireland have closed AM completely and pulled down the masts. People need to get SW now, buy a better radio if it doesn't work (the cheap < $80 DSP models are junk) and if allowed a washing-line, use a steel-core brass plated PVC covered one.
