once I told him, and he welcomed the metaphor, that memory is like an arrow shot into the past to hunt for stories, states of mind, awareness, songs and other traces of life. it also serves us in the present, helping us defend ourselves against those who would rather see us forgetful and submissive. but of course, one must learn how to aim 🏹
