Fun fact, after the fall of the USSR, secret "in case of war" files were released from the Soviet archieves, detailing contingencies in case of different scenarios.
One scenario entailed nuking key locations on the Danish islands of Funen and Zealand (Zealand is the island where Copenhagen is on) in order to enable the navy's exit from the Baltic Sea.
Just fun little things like that, that gives a glimpse into how things could've ended up, had the Cold War become hot.
