@s1m0n4@ohai.social @RubenWA@social.vivaldi.net I remember the Brexit referendum. My youngest daughter(who went to UCL and lives in London) was confident it would fail. I don't share your confidence at all. Britons are very racist. Like Americans.

@jonesmurphy@mastodon.social @RubenWA@social.vivaldi.net Racism is everywhere. Make no mistake, there's no population in the world that doesn't discriminate or despise what is considered different. Back in 2014 Switzerland, which is not in the EU, but in the Schengen area, held a referendum to introduce immigration quotas. The majority of Swiss was in favor. However the Swiss government didn't implement it, because it would have meant leaving the EU free trade area. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Swiss_immigration_initiative Brexit could have been ignored too.
