From American Samoa to the moon: How Christina Koch's path inspires Pacific youth
As the Artemis II crew prepared for splashdown, Pacific eyes were on Dr. Christina Koch, the first woman to travel into deep space and her unique connection to the people of #AmericanSamoa.
Before joining #NASA, Koch served as the Station Chief at #NOAA American Samoa Observatory. It was while living there that she learned she had been selected as an astronaut.

In 2020, while on the International Space Station, Christina Koch sent a message to American Samoa posted on her Instagram, including images of the island from ISS above and a photo of the American Samoa flag she carried with her on the mission against an ISS window with Earth below. Interesting at the NASA news conference in Houston yesterday, Christina used "paddling" as a metaphor about "CREW".
