@M_Gatta@ecoevo.social sorry I just ponder this topic lately from different point of view - at the playgrounds lately almost 100% people (adults and children) wrongly call my son a girl and my daughter a boy. He only wants to wear pink and she is wearing lots of his old clothes colored blue or green or just not pink, so it's understandable mistake. Girl around 5yo insisted to me once that she cannot be a girl and if she is then "why is she clothed like that?" But there is no other reasonable way to distinguish, you will not ask every child or parent you meet, you will not write "boy" on the forehead, you will not look up their underpants, you can just guess. You may skip explaining you child the details and just repeat every time "just seems like a girl/boy to me" but even from that vague answer with time and enough observations from the world the child will learn that the ones in pink dresses are girls and the ones in pants are boys, I guess the only think you can teach your child will be how to react when the stereotype-based was wrong - if they will insist "it's not right, it's weird" or just go with it "yeah, sometimes boys wear pink, I know, not big deal"

@M_Gatta and how do you know that a child X at the playground is boy or girl? You cannot teach your child more than you know I think and we can only guess based on some stereotypes as most children look androgynous that age.

@M_Gatta i looked up a book I got about sexual development of a child - it places getting what's the difference between sexes for children 24-48months so it just might be early. And I don't think there are children who will not learn it through observation of the world, as like there are no children who never learn how to go potty. I think seeing own genitals when you do potty training and observing parents (including bathroom if you are fine with it) naturally teaches child of the difference.
