We get them big at home too, but I reckon the golden orb weavers/tiger spiders/Trichonephila plumipes get a bit bigger up here in Brisbane.
Both of these are females, but in the first photo there is also a male above the female in her web. The males are much, much smaller.

@spacelizard They’re such pretty spiders. :) One day, though, I took a shortcut while walking and ended up in a labyrinth of shrubs with every possible path through them blocked by gold orb weavers’ webs. And the sun was setting...

@spacelizard all of ours have gone! The golden colour in the web is spectacular. I do have a common garden orb spider, the one that hides during the day, who is still there, despite the occasional web destruction, some three months later.
