warning: train autism ahead! this post might be too long for your instance, so please beware. ok so i've been working on a neat lil thingy that takes in a carriage's order number (e.g. 161) and spits out the order of the entire train (e.g. 8442 161/8843 161/8442 661 for a three-carriage bombardier talent 2 as used by abellio, sweg and now db regio). my goal for now with this application is to provide one interface where i can just do this for a variety of emus, right now focusing on the units that whirr around in my region, and so far i have implemented three trains: the alstom/caf talent 3 which was supposed to go to the öbb until they cancelled the order (br 6442, six carriages),the five-carriage bombardier talent 2 originally acquired by abellio baden-württemberg (br 8442),and its three-carriage counterpart (also br 8442). these were pretty easy to implement once i figured out how each carriage was numbered and ordered, which was pretty easy since i had quite a few of them (mostly 8442's) logged with all the data in my träwelling, plus i can take a look at them irl since i commute daily with those anyway. i got this done yesterday; i did a quick control this morning and confirmed that my implementation was (hopefully) correct. so far, so good.after that, i decided to tackle the other elephant in the room: the stadler flirt 3. this train (in its many forms), together with the bombardier talent 2, is also very ubiquitous in and around central baden-württemberg. having originally been acquired by go-ahead baden-württemberg (which, along its bavarian counterpart, has been acquired by the öbb and both subsequently renamed to arverio), this emu forms the backbone and core part of arverio baden-württemberg's fleet, so i thought it'd be the right decision to work on those as well. so while boarding my train (which happened to be one of these), i decided to note down each carriage's uic number. and welp, the logic didn't really make any sense to me. i mean sure, the end cars are marked as br 1430 and have order numbers apart by 500, whereas the middle cars are marked as 1830, and that's where the logic stops. the thing is, i don't see any real logic in the ordering of the middle carriages. just see for yourself, i mean 045, then 645, then 945, then 345???? i am confusion. the only thing consistent here is the last two numbers and the order numbers being 300 apart... eh whatever, i suppose i still need to do a lot of research. i'll keep y'all updated :3
