you gotta pay up for an IP (one that everyone can access, at least)you gotta pay up for a domainboth are centralized at the ICANN, and domains also go through registrarscertificates for encryption are also centralized at various corporations
the internet is foundationally not quite decentralized, and vital infrastructure is in the hands of bloated and questionable organizations which everyone’s forced to depend on

There's some work on building a more decentralized alternative DNS world -- and we love that -- but if one wants to be able to have a website that's accessible to everyone, one needs to play by these rules. Currently. Hopefully this changes at some point!
