Leftoids are the same exact way. Tim Soret got fucked hard because the Twitter hivemind (during pre-Elon twitter) found out he said some mild things about GamerGate and he was forced to apologize on stage. He now just posts schizo posts about AI on Twitter with a game update maybe once a year, his game has taken a long ass time to come out, and while in hindsight it might have been inevitable that his game would have merely been a "nice trailer you saw at E3 that one year", it definitely did not help.
If you've ever been a chud online, you have to renounce all past beliefs and cut your dick off and post your fantasies about killing your old friends online (and then you can get away with being a 4chan janny even).
And the beliefs move fast, in just a few years the left went from shitting on "Corporations are people" to "TRANS RIGHTS", and from "stop hate speech" to carving out an exception for shitting on Israel.
Toby Fox is the only person who mostly got this (by using social media as a news RSS feed solely), and he fucked up only when he ran his mouth about a Spanish translation of Undertale. It's a good move because it lowers the risk of pissing off someone who will discover his Earthbound romhack days.

Imagine how much better Undertale or Deltarune would be with this vitality
