The dark humor of the situation is that a deal was scuttled over vain hopes to save the petrodollar, which is already bleeding out and doomed. A realistic, non-delusional, non-propagandized US would've accepted ANY deal. US leaders who cared at all about Americans would've just released all the Epstein files as a distraction from the war and let that less chaos consume the failed elites. A loss is not a permanent thing, if you simply take it. A taken loss can be motivational, cleansing. You can shake off the rust and unrealistic ambitions, and aim for something new. The US just went to the moon and there are absolutely incredible riches in near space, and new military prospects too. What you want on Earth, you can actually buy. It's not actually cheaper to steal. Empires should be treated like a temporary embarrassment caused by surrounding weak states, and not a goal or a thing to care about maintaining. Empires destroy the core population, as happened in Rome and is happening now in US. America would be better off without an empire, and if the loss had simply been taken it'd even shortly be more respected and safer. The Democrats might've even crucified Trump's administration well enough to discourage some of the long-term Iranian vengeance. Well, nothing's guaranteed. Trump could just do - nothing. That would be nice.
