Trump's immediate problem: the Strait is closed and this is is giving Iran incredible leverage. Trump: blocking it gives leverage? OK! So the only smart thing the US has done the entire war, of allowing *some* oil to keep flowing, was probably done tough someone just not explaining how dumb and self-destructive any alternative would be to Trump. People didn't talk to Biden because he wasn't present to talk with. People aren't talking to Trump because if you disagree with him, even about specific means to achieve ends that he wants you to help him meet, he rages out. That Trump is compromised is not even the biggest problem with him. Q: could this also be a distraction? If we want ships to move here we actually need the cooperation of the locals, it's so easy to deny the ships! So Trump's response is: aha, then I need to threaten to kill some small vengeful groups.
