Had a wonderful discussion at the #osr26uk about social media, the #fediverse and science communication.
I am a firm believer of REAL, venture capital free, social media. Yet, many institutions still refrain from posting to Mastodon. They cannot appreciate the different culture and this is an issue, because it dampens the growth of the Fediverse.

@rupdecat@fediscience.org I'd argue that fediverse will grow regardless but it's a clear missed opportunity to connect with the vibrant, growing community here. The return on investment here is a really good proposition.

@rupdecat@fediscience.org Ooh, I hope this was recorded ... but I suspect it was not. I would have loved to learn from this conversation. So ... any advice for how we can engage with organizations to encourage them to post and share more on open, federated social media? I must admit, I still have a very hard time convincing my colleagues in communication about what Mastodon, or Peertube, etc. even are ... let alone, that they should use them.
