good question, I spent a few minutes trying to look it up and it probably has to do with the size of the company and the size of the batches made being mostly human labor
its not easy to find a clear answer though

so I have a jar here and the packaging says it's made in Italy and follows a 120+ year old process. The ingredients are basic. The Homemade part has the Rights Reserved symbol, so it's just a trademark.
