@metaphase@toot.community @4censord@unfug.social @snow@beasts.life @WerySkok@mastodon.ml @volt4ire@mastodon.social All of this needs a Apple Developer Account so they can sign the builds. macOS doesn’t allow unsigned builds to run IIRC (and if they allow them you need to go through hoops to allow it as a user). And this has a cost. This is *not* the same as “putting it on the App Store”. If the project doesn’t have a sponsor to cover these expenses, it needs to be funded somehow (and it’s just not right to have the developer to cover it from their own pocket).

  • I remember an indie game developer being asked about Mac versions and saying that they weren't gonna happen because of precisely this reason.

@manum @metaphase @4censord @snow @WerySkok @volt4ire You can do that, but the user has to: - enable external apps (may be default actually?) - Open Downloads in Finder - Right-click the app - Open - Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Allow (requires Admin privileges) - Go back to Downloads - Right-click app - Open - Open anyway. (or run `xattr remove com.apple.quarantine` to skip steps 2-5)
