either my tortoises recognize me (which would mean either they remember me or they can recognize me from seeing me like once a month) or they are really stupid and have zero survival instincts and are just lucky that no predators near them are interested enough in them

or maybe they just recognize humans as not dangerous, might be a bit more likely than recognizing me specifically; i would have to try that with someone who they couldn't know
