Deadly Earnest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadly_Earnest ———- Another way to enjoy late night TV (when after hours tv was still a novelty, paid for by incredibly long and boring ad breaks) was to watch Reel To Real on the ABC, in which Tim and Debbie (characters created by Steve Blackburn and Mary Kenneally) presented old B-movies and proceeded to interrupt, deconstruct, and generally mock them in voice-over as the movie screened. One hilarious night they presented some musical (the name of which I have long forgotten) and when the singer started dancing around a garden fountain, they kept re-winding the movie and playing it back in slow-mo to analyse the twirling. The next day my step-father complained he had been trying to watch a movie on the ABC and it was really good, but two dickheads kept talking all the way through it… 😆 Anyway… here is a sample of Tim and Debbie’s best work, presenting the “Brainspace” segment on the show “Australia You’re Standing In It” (probably 1983) https://youtu.be/RzbxKMvwR48
