  • @tarmot Clearly high level magic and witchcraft. My granny was an eccellent with and made yards of lace in her lifetime. (:

Jossain jemmassa on virkattuja kappaverhoja.

@tarmot I know it as the material. I would have voted 'lingerie', but I first thought of collars, gloves, and trim on hats.

@tarmot I have too many thoughts about the historical & cultural nuances of lace & lacemaking... Yes it's something our grannies and great grannies did, I make & wear lace myself occasionally, and I'd love some sensual lingerie that's made of something else than the scratchy polyester waste of today...

@tarmot All of the above. But seeing it near the word "Boost", which my mind first saw as "Boots" affected my first response.

@tarmot All of the first three :) But overall a very beautiful craft that takes time and skill. I'd like to use it in making clothes.

@tarmot A few things: 1) A collection of textile craft processes with many local variations 2) Something that I have used in artworks, and learned to make in one process (though never well) 3) A part of a history of predominantly women's work 4) A material in garments designed to denote class in the 19th Century that became devalued through mechanical manufacture (both the value of the craft and the perception of class attached to it)

@tarmot something else - fine work in textiles, could be for tablecloths, could be courtains or decorations. I distinguish hand and machine-made. I've made a little myself but don't think of lace as something I make now because it is so laborious. But, I know how it's made. I think it's actually a young person's game to make lace because it requires good closeup vision and pliant hands.
