It's just a lot cheaper to fake stuff. NASA gets billions to do something, then pays Stanley Kubrick a million to fake it. Then all the billions saved goes into secret programs like building secret government underground bunkers. Plus, the fakery is a good morale booster. There was an Apollo astronaut that said everything was fake when he got really old. Another weird thing is that all the people who supposedly died in the Challenger explosion have been found alive.
