One anectode is that I was told that at a climate modelling centre they can't improve their model much because all the old folks that knew how it worked retired.

This is also why the most important part of "open source" is not the source that is open but the people who write it and understand it.

@eliocamp This kind of process knowledge can also be weaponized against management & coworkers. How many administrative assistants can get their boss fired just by withholding key information? The Musk, Zuckerberg, Ellison & Trump's of this world never understand how an underling can sabotage them just with some well-timed silence. The habitual mistreatment of the so-called lower orders is embedded in the groupthink of the Epstein Class. They never realize how it leads to their own doom.
