that prior to the 1500s the only place you could find potatoes was in the Andes never ceases to blow my mind … and then the hypothesis that the 'little ice age' of the 1600s might have been caused in part by an explosion of wild growth in farmland abandoned by all the people who died over here wtf https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002rrvz

    @qburns@mas.to This is so delightful, I hardly have any enthusiasm for anything these days but synthesizing historical research into new explanatory theories is my crack cocaine. I shall be sampling heartily from their podcast website, which should last me a bit since there are appx. 1100 episodes in the can 😂
