I seriously cannot get my thoughts straight about what's apparently happening in 4 hours time. Trump said he will 'end a civilization'. There's plenty of horrible things you can say about the regime in Iran, and their actions in attacking neighbouring countries is reprehensible, but their people didn't vote for this. Millions of innocent people will die if the US and Israel decide to destroy all infrastructure. It will be yet another genocide they are complicit in. And for what? Starting wars to get a peace prize? Interpersonal differences? Boosting the price of US oil and manipulating the stock market? Is that worth the lives of innocents?
And what does it mean to wipe a civilization from the map? Iran is the heart of an ancient empire with such rich history, a centre of science, an important stop on the silk road. Are you trying to get rid of all of that rich history? I'm getting visions of the ruins of Palmyra, in Syria, where ISIS destroyed 2000 year old monuments. Or Aleppo, also in Syria, which in addition to being a vibrant city, was also UNESCO world heritage for the impressive historic architecture. Much of that history is bombed and lost. Is this part of the goal? To take away the culture of these people? Take away what unites them, to make them easier to eradicate?
The world is a horrible place.
