Why the would the US undermine its own ceasefire by green lighting Israel to commit massacres against civilians in Lebanon?
Its makes more sense to see it as Israel wanting to dragg the US back into its war

They didn't want a cease fire, that is why they agreed to things they had no intention on keeping like a full removal of US troops from the entire region. They wanted to dip the oil prices for a day so they could buy at a lower price and sell when it spikes again.
