Why is all of Lemmy politics?

2026-04-08 03:38 UTC

Seriously every other post, every sub seems like nothing but politics. It’s so boring and disgusting. What made reddit great at one time was the diversity of genres and depth. Lemmy is very shallow and politically motivated it seems. I have been here since the Reddit exodus. It’s always been this way. Do different Lemmy servers have different content? Are certain severs curated? Where do I find the depth and deep subject matter.

Because everyone wants to run around thinking they’ve got everything figured out for the world or their country, at the comfort of their computer chair. And they’ll get validated in doing so, without having so much to lift a finger.

Not enough people that aren’t interested in politics present here to engage more actively in non-political communities. Lemmy or PieFed still haven’t reached even 1 million of users. While Reddit in glory days had dozens of millions users(not bots).

If you haven’t notice yet, the world is burning. It’s burning due to the actions of rich political people. That’s really important. People tend to talk about stuff like that.

lemmy was created by the people who used to inhabit r/politics; r/socialism; r/communism; r/linux; and r/foss and they coalesced around lemmy.ml lemmy.world has the bread-and-circuses that you’re looking for.

You can curate your own feed: use the block button for any communities you don't want to see. As for why there's a lot of politics on lemmy: The west's leading country just threatened to annihalate an entire civilization yesterday. Kind of a lot going on right now.

Sounds like you just don't agree with lefty politics. ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/d0a409b4-b253-4611-a5b3-720d9002d8d2.png)

Depends on what you define as "politics" but aside from "everything is politics", my Lemmy feed is mostly tech stuff. Just subscribe to communities that fit your interests. That being said, many interests will be under-represented on Lemmy as I think the user base skews either technical or political or both.

Because that's what people most engage with. On Reddit there's a lot of politics too by the way. You're free to create your own non-political community and create content there as well.

    Open ##2025957

  • Sure, there's a lot of politics on here but definitely not all of Lemmy is about politics... If you dislike politics, I suggest you block Lemmy communities with politics in them if you dislike to that extent... Or you could just not subscribe to any such communities and stick to "Home" or "Subscribed" which will only give you content from communities you're subscribed with.

I also think it is the times we live in right now. The world is in shambles, not too weird everyone is very political motivated right now. Just wait untill times settle. Then you'll see the political interest go way down again. But yeah. I am missing reddit on the sports forum part. There is dead.

  • Lemmy is part of the fediverse. On the fediverse you are your own algorithm. So either you have curated your feed to be very political or you're on the local feed of your instance, which has a lot of political posts. But you signed up there. Either way, you're there by choice. Curate your own feed. I get lots of stuff that isn't political. Just keep in mind you don't get reddit user numbers over here so not every niche nonpolitical subject has found a viable community. Yet.

    Open ##2025967

  • If I can frame this a different way — I wish interest-driven discovery had a little less friction on lemmy/in fediverse. I don’t assume it’s not there. I just haven’t found it yet.

I consider doom scrolling to be an unhealthy way to consume news and an ineffective tool for political change. Protests, strikes, and voting change politics. There is little to be gained by algorithmically filling my body with cortisol and adrenaline. My head is not in the sand because I read apnews and reuters periodically. I prefer for lemmy to be an enjoyable place to visit. If it was an endless feed of doom I would uninstall and read a book instead.
