The weather was so nice this morning I got off the train a stop early and walked into the city along the canal. The trees are coming into leaf and there’s so much birdsong. A lovely start to a workday.

This evening I took a different route, along the river rather than the canal, and almost missed my train after becoming distracted by a fence covered in motivational graffiti, with “The People’s Weatherboard” written along the top:

@katemorley This may or may not interest you. Cornell University has an app called Merlin (think falcon, not wizard) that has a Sound ID feature. Basically it ignores everything but bird calls. I often turn it on when going for a walk and put the phone in my pocket when going for my walk. So far Merlin has noted more than fifty species in our neighbourhood (NB: this includes the ocean and a 200-acre park, but still... We've had 34 species in our backyard and/or passing through.)
