The regional structure governing 193 million acres of US national forests since 1908 is being replaced by 15 political appointee State Directors. "USDA received nearly 47,000 emails during the public comment period on the reorganization, which ran from August 1 through September 30, 2025. Of the 14,000 comments specifically addressing the restructuring, 82% opposed it. Five percent were positive. Seven percent were neutral."
