Playing videos used to be so CPU-intensive that playing two clips moving around at the same time fluidly on #BeOS was a technical feat. It was exciting. Fast forward a few decades, the supercomputers in our pockets can do this easily and much more… and we get 3 video ads obfuscating actual content. Some say software gets worse as hardware improves. True in many cases as you can get the same performance with heavier code. But capitalism cancels out the very meaning of it all. What percentage of all human activity today is even useful vs just redirecting flows of revenue from one direction to the other  ?
