Some days you set out to generate waveforms with PHP and ffmpeg because it looks like a 5 minutes thing and bump into some obscure issue about 8 bit signed PCM and WAV files that you didn't plan to be looking at (ended just doing a very crude downsample from 16 bit 1000Hz).
