Closing a National Archives branch isn't "only" like closing a branch library. It's more like closing an academic department at a university. Because every local branch of the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration has a different collection. The San Francisco NARA branch (actually in San Bruno, just across El Camino Real from the former Tanforan concentration camp site) has unique collections of West Coast immigration and genealogy records, and a l...

RE: https://journa.host/@bolts/117304225424757725 Whereas in San Francisco, the proposed Measure D would scale back this form of popular democratic access, actually reducing the public's ability to place measures on our local ballot. We had a municipal dignity here and some claims to leadership among cities, and then techbros started meddling in our local politics.

RE: https://sfba.social/@MLNow/117308678149898530 Awake late at night and got around to reading JoeEsk's bemused yet shuddery tour of the mysterious pink building on 13th Street -- former headquarters of permit expediter Walter Wong. This story is both utterly San Francisco and utterly batshit.

That Valar Atomics name does say a lot. Worthy of Ar-Pharazôn the Golden.

Los Angeles City Attorney candidate John McKinney reportedly sees his homeless constituents (or their inevitable offenses that result from living outdoors) as "an albatross around the neck of this city." I wonder if he has read any of the original Coleridge? (His opponent in the runoff is Marissa Roy.) https://boltsmag.org/los-angeles-city-attorney-election-roy-mckinney-feldstein-soto/

#aKissIsNotAKiss. Ever thought about the #gesture of a #kiss? Many societies have traditions which involve kissing to show joy or be used as part of a greeting. Kissing involves touching of the cheeks, head or hand of another person. Across Europe, kissing on the lips is, however, only used in romantic relationships. So somebody clearly overstepped and abused a situation, which should have belonged to the fantastic Spanish players only: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/20/world/europe/hermoso-kis...

The deadline for symposium proposals for the EFP conference in June 2024 in Lausanne is approaching soon: www.unil.ch/efp2024. Anyone interested in proposing a symposium should send a provisional title, a 300 word description of the symposium, and a list of 6-8 proposed speakers and talk titles to efp2024@unil.ch.

Just got an email informing me that I was cited by a dead person. I feel honoured that this person cited me in the end and sad that we won’t be able to talk to each other anymore. Greetings from heaven!

Today’s lunchtime sketch: a couple of cute idiots.

Fenn turned out a bit bigger than how I normally draw him. I’m not mad about it 😏

Is this anything?

Finished off with a quick render. Will get back to working on chapter 4 now. Non-sexual male nudity.

Reference layers in clip studio can do more than just keep your colours inside the lines. You can do a “Clown Pass”, blocking out areas you want to keep separate while rendering, then use those colours with the selection tool. Here, Fenn’s hand holding the axe is a different colour from his chest. That means I can paint shadows without worrying about going over the line onto his chest.
