Just saw this: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/News/2026_Commons_links_tables_database_split Expect some tool breakage when the current tables are dropped, until I can switch everything over.

The only (good) thing I noticed about MacOS 27 Golden Gate is the little arrow icon next to the camera bar, to open the otherwise hidden icons

If I develop a Rust trait, does that make me a traitor?

So-called "hacker tools" (including things like port scanners) are illegal to have and use in Germany (yes, seriously). Given the recent news of LLMs hacking everything, I wonder if they should fall into that category as well?

#Dragonsword: Awakening is like a solid 8/10 for me, but the repurposing of its live service bones into a solid standalone game is really well done and earns it an extra 5 points for a staggering 13/10. In short, it's a genshin-type game without any gacha or live service things, so you can focus on the exploration, character building, and sick-ass combat. You still get lots of goodies, but it feels earned and not progression breaking. It can also serve as a blueprint for the bigger game...

Reminder to stop thinking I'm bad at the things I'm objectively very good at. I was always the type of kid to get upset over a 98% test score.

@jsstaedtler heck AI for getting me excited about this (detail work is mushy and hands are uncannily tiny) but that means we can steal it for fun AND profit!

Another small one in Mastodon's own web client. Someone filed the bug on September 18: post from the deck view, Mastodon's multi-column layout, and the compose box just sits there instead of going back. Reply, quote, edit, same story. The check turned out to be one exact string, pathname === '/publish', with no idea that /deck/publish exists. I pulled it into its own isStandaloneComposePath function, stripped the /deck prefix before comparing, and added a test s...

The kernel mounts a root filesystem. I have been saying that for four posts now. Here is the one with nothing underneath it. Every file in /proc reports zero bytes, du says the whole tree is zero, and yet cat gives you answers. Nothing is stored. The read itself is the work. Open /proc/meminfo and the kernel counts pages right then and hands you a number that did not exist a moment earlier. /sys goes further and lets you write. Echo into the right file and you have changed how the scheduler b...

Ad, affiliate link. I recommend Infomaniak Public Cloud because I use it myself. My instance runs 4 AMD cores, 8 GB of RAM and 20 GB of SSD for about 16 EUR a month before VAT, and it behaves like a real cloud instance rather than a bargain VPS. Everything runs out of their own data center in Carouge, practically next door to CERN. Bandwidth is free, and object storage traffic is free up to 10 TB too, with the storage itself priced in cents rather than francs. I keep waiting for them to raise...

Today is #WorldHeartDay ❤️ I’ve undergone two heart surgeries myself, my beloved dog died of cardiomyopathy, and I’m deeply invested in heart health. Cardiovascular disease is the world's most urgent health crisis. It can hide in plain sight, with warning signs often going unnoticed. See the signs. Protect your heart. Demand action.
