Just finished harvesting this year's garlic! No award winners (leek moths probably didn't help) but there was no rot at all, so my efforts in drainage continue to pay off. Got a full, albeit modest crop. Now my shed has a lovely canopy of foliage & is going to smell soooooooo good for a while too. Soon enough, I won't need to buy any garlic until spring as well!

So long Dolly. What an aspirational legacy to leave behind, both as a musician & just as a good human.

I haven't been as active here. I think it speaks of the wonderful non-addictive, anti-grind thing that mastodon has going. I love the freedom from compulsion. I've also been busy with new work, art projects, gardening & the mental health challenges that most of us wrestle with to one degree or another. Anyway, I'm still around & still appreciate all of you bright & interesting people. Keep being your weird & wonderful selves.

Half Dome on 4/16/25. It was long (~20 miles car to car with trail detours) and I am not very comfortable walking up slippery 45+ degree granite slabs even when harnessed in, but it was a pretty amazing hike.

With the following patch stack (that definitely needs some cleanup): 1. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/191664 2. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/191579 3. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/191665 4. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/191667 5. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/192371 6. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/192830 7. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/192831 We can now bootstrap LLVM using the NewPM on x86! All LLVM tests p...

@artagnon Yeah, they can be landed independently. I just have them stacked given it made it easier to keep everything on the same branch locally so I could do a bootstrapping build.

@llvm Going to a conference for the compiler that shall not be named? Blasphemy! On a more serious note, I think this is a really good thing. I think there's a lot we can learn from each other that is currently mostly siloed.

I'm about to wake #GreenDay up, are you ready? 🦇🎃🎸💚 (you have only hours left to boost!)

@deliberately_me @blackfedi Hearing this reminds me (yet again) how I miss a new album damn near every year from him. I always wanted a FULL, 1hr +, album from him of acoustic blues. Pared down like this. Mostly vocals, with him and 1 main instrument. How Come U Don't Call Me style, or that acoustic KISS version with just him and a 6 string blues guitar. =(

With an autumnal sough the colour washes to the earth, the harvest moon dims, a fire heats the hearth. A few shots from the garden I maintain. If you are in need of album or book cover art, and like any of my images, I'll gladly donate their use if you contact me. #nature #macro #photography #autumn #fall #leaves

@support We've spoke of this previously. Do you have anyone else who has found that many of the people they follow, mutually follow even, are having problems with posts showing up? Just looked at @unknownpseudoartist feed and find that there are months that have never shown for me. You do not think of these things, so you never look. But that seems odd to find them missing. There are no mutes, blocks, and not even posts that have muted words from my list. Just never showed up. Not a...

After a long discussion on the Lean Zulip, Mario Carneiro has shown that the Calculus of Inductive Constructions (in its full version w/ large elimination of Acc) + Excluded Middle proves that ZF is consistent: https://arxiv.org/abs/2609.23143 It is fairly simple to show that Aczel’s type of sets as well-founded trees is a model of ZF without Replacement, and even a bit further, that the iterative hierarchy V_alpha exists for all ordinals alpha, but Replacement seems very analogous to Unique Cho...

After playing around with various attempts to construct models of ZF (or IZF) in the Calculus of Inductive Constructions, I can say that CiC (even with LEM) is severely deficient compared to ZF/IZF in terms of what can be done without assuming some form of Choice. I think that Lean's banishment of these problems by just assuming Choice throughout the ecosystem might be no small part of its appeal to mathematicians.

FRANKLIN, TN PASTOR KEVIN RIGGS: "What happened yesterday is indefensible. 3 of the last 4 executions in Tennessee have been a total mess...The death penalty is immoral. Inhumane. It goes against the teachings of Jesus. There's nothing good in this." Pastor Riggs helped lead the vigil at Riverbend.
